Suffrage Youth Project - Session 1
On Wednesday evening, the student volunteers had their first project session led by Emma and I. Wednesday’s session was a great way for some of the volunteers to get to know each other and the project a little better, as well as set up for the exciting activities that we plan to get local youth groups involved with! The Session kicked off with a quick presentation from Emma on the history of the suffragette and suffragist movements, as well as some more information for the volunteers on how the project will be structured. Afterwards, the Volunteers played a difficult ice-breaker game in which they had to guess favourite films and colours of their fellow volunteers (It’s a lot harder than it sounds!). The final activity of the evening was setting up for the next sessions. The group was divided into two teams; those who felt artsy preparing some sashes for the youth to decorate, and the others who didn’t feel so artsy designed their own country, Suffrage City, as an example for an upcoming workshop with the youth group. – Apparently coconut currency and self-driving vehicles are the way forward! Overall, the evening was a success! It was great to meet all the new volunteers working on this project, as well as get some inspiration for future sessions with everyone! We have loads of fresh ideas for this project thanks to everyone who came on Wednesday. Both Emma and I are really looking forward to the rest of the sessions with everyone!
